About the Speakers
Howard W. Ashcraft, Jr., LEED® AP
Partner, Hanson Bridgett LLP, Hon. AIACC
Howard
W. Ashcraft, Jr. is a Fellow of the American College of Construction
Lawyers; an honorary member of the American Institute of Architects
California Council and Steering Committee member on its task force for
Integrated Project Delivery (IPD); a member of the American Arbitration
Association panel for Large and Complex Construction Cases for
California and Nevada; and a former Governing Committee Member of the
American Bar Association Forum on the Construction Industry. He is the
recipient of the AIACC’s President’s Award and AIASF’s Special
Achievement Award for developments in Integrated Project Delivery and
has contributed to the National Building Information Modeling
Standard.
Recent transactional projects include several award winning, LEED
Platinum pure IPD projects, several major hospital projects approaching
$1 billion each in value, a pure IPD hospital expansion, mixed use IPD
projects, and a variety of healthcare, commercial and institutional
projects. Howard has also been lead counsel in numerous delay and
impact cases and has tried construction jury and court trials as well
as many construction arbitrations. Recent significant matters include
representing the State of California in a delay and impact case
involving a critical transportation management facility, a structural
steel design builder in a nine figure casino delay claim; an
international consortium concerning defects in a major industrial
facility in Mexico, a major public university in a delay and impact
case arising from design and construction of a multi-disciplinary
laboratory, and a national engineering firm in an eight figure delay
claim.
Lisa Dal Gallo, LEED® AP

Lisa
Dal Gallo is an attorney with Hanson Bridgett LLP who has over 20 years
of experience in the construction industry. Before becoming a lawyer,
she worked professionally for one of the largest general contractors in
the world. During that eight year period, Lisa held several different
field and office positions completing millions of dollars worth of
work-in-place for both the interior, and core-and-shell divisions in
the following sectors: medical / healthcare facilities, laboratories,
retail space, office towers and light industrial.
Lisa's field experience provides her with insight and understanding of
the development process from design inception through completion of
construction. Her transactional practice focuses on risk management and
contract drafting, review and negotiation for owners, architects,
construction managers, contractors and subcontractors utilizing various
project delivery methods, including integrated project delivery, for
both public and private works. Lisa is also familiar with the various
contractual arrangements and business structures for public private
partnerships. On the claims side, she advises clients regarding a
variety of legal issues including contractual disputes, claims
analysis, negligence, termination, default, acceleration and delay,
mechanic liens and stop notices, and alternative dispute resolution.
Lisa has a Bachelor of Science in Construction Management from
California State University Chico, and a Juris Doctors from Syracuse
University. She is a member of the American Society of Healthcare
Engineering ("ASHE"), a member of the Education Committee for the DBIA
Western Pacific Region and sits on the Steering Committee for the
DBIA-WPR Northern California Chapter.
David S. Gehrig
Senior Counsel, Hanson Bridgett LLP
David
S. Gehrig assists public agency clients such as health care districts,
water districts and cities, with the full range of legal issues related
to public works construction projects. He has worked on numerous
large-scale infrastructure projects from the drafting of the contract
specifications, through the bid process to contract completion and
claims resolution. He has considerable experience with contract award
disputes, prevailing wage laws, subcontractor substitution issues,
bidder pre-qualification, and alternative project delivery methods like
design-build and integrated project delivery principles. He has also
successfully resolved several stop notice lawsuits for public agency
clients.
David also assists public agency clients with a wide variety of other
legal issues, including Public Records Act compliance, record retention
issues, Endangered Species Act compliance strategies, drafting
professional service agreements and communication site leases, and
condemnation law. Prior to joining Hanson Bridgett, David practiced
public agency defense litigation where he worked in all phases of
pre-trial litigation practice, and became familiar with many legal
provisions unique to public agency clients such as immunities under the
California Government Code, claim filing procedures, and liability
under inverse condemnation, and other property damage causes of action.
Annette K. Mathai-Jackson, LEED® AP
Senior Counsel, Hanson Bridgett LLP
Annette
K. Mathai-Jackson's practice emphasizes real estate, construction and
corporate law. She handles real estate acquisitions, ground leasing,
financing, development, leasing, management and disposition matters.
She has represented private developers in project development and
construction financing, public agencies in the disposition of railroad
rights-of-way, and nonprofit borrowers in public finance bond
transactions. She represents landlords and tenants in both the shopping
center and office context, and has extensive experience assisting
senior care clients in real estate acquisition, financing and
disposition, including HUD loan assumptions and refinancing. Annette
has also worked with owners and developers in innovative project
delivery methods, including negotiating construction contracts
implementing an integrated project delivery (IPD) approach. She
assisted in the drafting of the construction agreement for the first
IPD project in New England, and for a hospital client on a
multi-million dollar construction and renovation project, bringing
together the owner, architect and contractor to execute one
comprehensive, collaborative agreement. The New England project
obtained LEED® platinum certification and the hospital project is
striving for LEED® certification.
In addition to her real estate and construction expertise, Annette has
also worked with clients on a variety of business, corporate and
commercial transactional issues including securities, financings,
mergers and acquisitions, private equity and general contracts.

- If you cancel within 7 days, you will receive a 20% refund.
- A colleague from the same company may replace your reservation for an event or workshop with at least 24 hour notice.
- Should USGBC-NCC have to cancel the workshop or event, you will receive a 100% refund.
- Registration cannot be transferred to another workshop or event.
